Wrexham’s Substance Abuse Action Team has developed a 5 year strategic plan to address substance misuse in Wrexham which lays out how the county will develop and strengthen services up to 2008. It has been developed to give a local effect to a number of key national objectives.
The SMAT places a strong emphasis on raising awareness of substance misuse amongst children and young people. They have introduced drug and alcohol awareness training to school governors, sixth formers and ’New Deal’ programmes.
The Wrexham SMAT is made up of representatives from -

2. WREXHAM LOCAL HEALTH GROUP
3. NORTH EAST WALES NHS TRUST
4. NORTH WALES POLICE
5. COMMUNITY DRUG AND ALCOHOL SERVICE
6. CAIA PARK PARTNERSHIP
7. CAIS
Wrexham SMAT Multi-agency Drug and Alcohol Training
The popular course is delivered in partnership with the North Wales Health Authority, North Wales Police, Yale College and Wrexham SMAT and takes place at the Grove Park site of Yale College 4 times a year. Over the last 3 years staff from a wide range of voluntary and statutory services have benefitted from the expert training on offer.
