The North Wales Substance Misuse Forum is made up of Chief Officers from statutory and non-statutory service providers across the region, together with relevant partners from other agencies such as the Police, Local Authorities, Probation Service and NW Fire and Rescue Service as well as voluntary services
The aim of the Forum is to meet quarterly and discuss and agree substance misuse strategies and protocols on a regional level, where it is considered appropriate. In this way, there is collaboration by agreement and an unified approach to current issues across the region. This includes the prioritising and allocation of the North Wales Capital Fund, suplied by the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG), which is undertaken by the North Wales Commissioning Advisory Group (CAG) on behalf of the NWSMF. This in turn is agreed by all six North Wales Community Safety Partnerships (CSPs)
The local Substance Misuse Action Teams (SMATs) are given delegated responsibility for substance misuse issues by the CSPs and are responsible for undertaking the necessary actions and monitoring individual projects through funding provided directly to them by the WAG. This is done through a Commissioning Strategy leading to local planning.
The current Chair of the NWSMF is Andrew Jones (Regional Director for NPHS). The secretariat is provided by:
