Services in Anglesey

Ynys Môn covers a diverse area of urban and rural settlements. The local substance misuse action team (SMAT) meets regularly to discuss innovative ways of tackling substance misuse in response to the changing needs of local communities, while keeping in accordance with the Welsh Assembly Government strategy for combating substance misuse (Working Together to Reduce Harm – The substance misuse strategy for Wales 2008-2018)

One of our recent initiatives has been the production of a DVD which will highlight the dangers of binge drinking within the youth culture; it will reiterate the message of short and long term health consequences as part of a harm reduction programme. An alcohol sub group has also been established to tackle the growing problem of alcohol misuse, and one of the group’s priorities will be to re-address the balance of drugs and alcohol as equal components of substance misuse. Ynys Môn’s SMAT priorities for 2010/11 include alcohol initiatives, homelessness and employment.

The Ynys Môn Substance Misuse Action Team is made up of the following members and representatives from the following organisations:
